What is the difference between dry cleaning and steam cleaning?

What is the difference between dry-cleaning and steam cleaning?

Keeping clean is not a matter of hygiene, care also aims to keep all your assets in top condition and extend their useful life. In this post, we will know the main differences between dry cleaning and steam cleaning

When you buy upholstery, keeping up to date on cleaning makes all the difference and saves you a lot of worries. After all, something that is well cared for is less likely to deteriorate. Ignoring the need to clean as often as necessary can cause damage.

When you don’t clean often, the dirt that ends up hurting the upholstery and even causing respiratory and allergic problems for those who frequent the environment.

In some environments, cleaning becomes even more important, such as hospitals, clinics and ambulances. Keeping these places clean represents not only are but also a duty to maintain the health and safety of all.

To find the ideal way to clean each surface, you need to know the existing options, their differences and which one is ideal for each need. In this context, many people imagine that steam and dry cleaning are similar – if not equal – which is a big mistake.

Dry cleaning

This technique does not use water, but specific products to remove dirt without having to wet the surface. The application of substances is usually performed with microfiber cloths or flannel, which endanger the painting of a car or even preventing the cleaning of deeper layers of upholstery or pillows.

The big issue with dry cleaning is the care it demands. The use of chemical solvents for sanitation makes it necessary to wait a while after sanitizing, so that there is no risk that people will breathe chemical components, causing health damage.

Steam cleaning

When it comes to poisoning hazards, steam washing has a bonus: it’s safe. This type of cleaning uses steam produced by water condensation. The temperature reached by this steam confers a great power to remove dirt, including microorganisms that may be harmful to health.

The ease with which steam can reach deeper layers of the surface is also an interesting point. As the steam is less dense, its permeability in the upholstery is higher, making cleaning easier.

Steam cleaning has a shorter drying time than conventional soap and water cleaning, and also uses a much smaller amount of water resource. The use of chemicals is not required as steam can clean almost all the dirt, leaving the use of chemicals only for tough stains.

Carpet stains can look like dirt and chaos to even the cleanest, most organized homes. Removing stains can be difficult as some types of substances make marks harder to remove than others. So, how to remove stains on the carpet?

In this article, you can use a solution to remove some of the most difficult stains. These methods work for most cases, but you should be aware that stain removal also depends on your carpet type. Remember to follow your carpet care instructions to avoid damage.

Stain removing red wine

Red wine stains on carpets should be removed as soon as possible to prevent permanent infiltration of the fabric. Use a clean cloth to absorb the stain immediately.  After absorbing the excess, apply a remover, always testing first in a small area, and let it act for a while.

Then remove the product with a sponge and warm water. For light carpets, apply a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to the stain.  Let the mixture work for about five minutes and then rinse with water. Vinegar can also be used for red wine stains. Apply some vinegar to the stain and add laundry detergent over it. Leave the stain soaked in the mixture and then remove the solution with water.

We are always worried about cleaning something in our homes such as clothes or bed, table and bath and other items that also need special care like cleaning carpets.

Carpets and upholstery are also part of our daily cleaning routine, avoiding the yellowing of the fabric, as well as the accumulation of dust and other types of dirt that can bring health problems to residents. To solve this problem, Method Floors Solutions expert gives tips on how often such parts need to be cleaned.

Upholstery Cleaning

For upholstery, for example, the basic recommendation is to wash at least twice a year. But if the house has pets and children, or  dusty space, the frequency may increase to once a month. The same goes for the pillow covers, which help make up the decor of the room.

The same goes for pillowcases, which help to make up the decoration of the room. “After washing these items, it is good to open the windows every day, letting the sun in to make the environment airy,” explains Rodrigo Figueiredo.

Carpet Cleaning

About carpets, care should be increased, especially if residents do not have the habit of taking off their shoes when they arrive from the street. This is because this type of piece accumulates a large number of fungi and bacteria as it is a place where people walk.

Also, washing will depend on the type of material manufactured. Heavier ones, for example, can be washed twice a year by different procedures that vary according to composition. Lighter carpets, usually those in the bathroom or kitchen, can be cleaned monthly to prevent disease.
